St. Moritz

A beautiful snowy swiss landscape! 

St. Moritz is located in the Upper Engadin in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. It is one of the best-known vacation spots in Europe. It is chic and famous for its ambiance, and is situated next to Engadine's lakescape at 1,856 meters above sea level. The bubbly "champagne atmosphere" is as legendary as the St. Moritz sun, which shines on an average 322 days a year!

There are a lot of events in St.Moritz such as operas in all seasons, the British Classic Car Meeting, the surf marathon, the city race, the gourmet festival, etc.

St. Moritz has four ski regions: Corviglia, Corvatsch, Diavolezza, and Zuoz. They offer 350 kilometers of prepared slopes and 34 cosy restaurants. Moreover, there are a number of snowsports schools. 

In St. Moritz walking/hiking is always a spectacular experience. There are over 580 km of hiking trails. Nice starting points for scenic hikes are the famous mountains Corviglia and Muottas Muragl. Visitors in a wheelchair do not fall short since there are 9 wheelchair-accessible hikes. For children, there is the 1.5 km long “Schellenursli” ( a children’s character) trail. It is suitable for pushchairs. The best about hiking in St. Moritz is that the cable cars are included if staying at a hotel for two nights or longer

St. Bernard dogs

Saint Bernards are my dream breed of dog famous for being rescue dogs specially in snow.

I think many of us associate them with rescues in the Alps mainly and wearing a barrel of schnapps to offer to whoever they rescue, however as Joanna told me in this postcard the barrel is actually more of a thing that was made for tourists and their "viewing pleasure" since they believe in it.

Lake Sils

Lake Sils, Switzerland lies on a high plateau at an altitude of 1800 m, immediately by the watershed of the Maloja pass, the crossing into the Bergell valley. An idyllic hiking and cycling route circumnavigates the lake.

During the summer months, Europe’s highest passenger boat service operates on Lake Sils: the modern motor vessel "Segl-Maria" ploughs across the lake from Sils Maria to Maloja on the south-western lakeshore and back again in 40 minutes, four times a day. During this scenic cruise, it stops at the Chastè peninsula, Plaun da Lej and Isola.
In summer, the Upper Engadine is regarded as a veritable fisherman’s paradise. Mountain trout, greyling and char abound in the numerous lakes, as well as in Lake Sils. The fishery is open from the start of May to mid September.
The renowned German philosopher Nietzsche spent considerable time at Lake Sils. Today, his former dwelling house is a museum in which original documents and letters can be viewed. One of the most beloved winter walks in the Upper Engadine leads from Sils-Maria over the Chastè peninsula up to Maloja, and then back again to Sils-Maria.
